Commemorate your loved one’s life in a book
Telling their story will be one of the most rewarding things they’ll ever do, and their finished book will be a timeless memento that friends and family can cherish forever.
This is what your loved one’s biography-writing journey is going to look like…
From once in a lifetime gift to one-of-a-kind read
Your loved one’s book will tell their story, their way, getting all those precious memories down for everyone to enjoy. In my first meeting with your gift recipient, we’ll decide on the kind of story they want to tell. Do they want to tell their whole life story? Or share the story of their childhood? Or open up on the moments in life that really defined them?
Interviews will usually be scheduled over the course of a few weeks. I’ll guide the gift recipient through a range of questions to get to the heart of their story.
The book will include a glossy full-colour photo insert, so friends and family can all get involved in choosing which photos to include.* We’ll need a suitable cover photo too.
Armed with hours of recordings and notes, I’ll get to work on writing the book that brings their stories to life.
Review and edit
When the story has been written in full, your gift recipient will get their first look at the manuscript. This is their chance to make any revisions or corrections.
An objective proofreader will review the manuscript to ensure their book is free of typos or inconsistencies.
A carefully curated team of designers and typesetters will create a stunning cover, lay out the photos and text, and ready the book for production.
The hardback books will be professionally printed, bound, and readied for despatch.
The hard work has been done. While they wait for their books to be delivered, your gift recipient will receive a box of chocolates from my local chocolatier.
You choose whether to have the books sent to your gift recipient, or whether they should come to you so you can have the joy of delivering them in person.
A big part of the joy of this gift is in the giving…
So you’ll receive a gift box filled with personalised goodies to present to your friend or loved one on the big day. A wonderful way to mark a special occasion and start their storytelling journey.

Hiring a ghostwriter to tell someone else’s story
There’s no need to worry about working with a ghostwriter, and your gift recipient doesn’t need any prior experience. They’ll receive an introductory guide to the process that will help them begin thinking of the stories they want to tell, but you can set their mind at ease – they won’t need to do any of the writing; that’ll be my job.
I’ve helped people tell all sorts of stories, and your gift recipient will find me an attentive, supportive listener. I haven’t lived their life, but I know how to make their story leap off the page. I’ve worked with published authors and first-time writers to create books that tell their story perfectly and I can do the same for your loved one.
The finished book will be uniquely theirs; something the whole family can treasure for years to come.
Let’s get their story started
Get in touch to place your order, or we can talk through any questions about the process, publishing options, or the differences between biographies and memoirs.
Thinking about writing your own autobiography or memoir (and happy to forego the gift box and trimmings)? Check out my autobiographies and memoirs page.
Who retains the copyright and IP of the work you produce?
I will retain the copyright and intellectual property of the manuscript until the project fee
has been paid in full. At that point, full ownership of the manuscript will transfer to you, and
I will not retain any claim to the finished material.
Can a self-published book be sold?
Yes, it can. You just need an ISBN in order to sell your book online or in shops. You can either arrange this yourself, or, if you prefer, I can factor it into my work for you.
Do you outsource your work?
No. I only outsource non-editorial services related to the design, print, and production of your book, using a trusted partner that I have worked with for many years.
Everything else is handled exclusively by me and I'll be your only point of contact from first meeting through to sign off so you'll have direct contact with me at every stage of the process.
What experience and qualifications do you have?
Before setting up Lomas Editorial, I worked as a Senior Editor, overseeing, ghosting, and editing more than thirty non-fiction and narrative non-fiction books and memoirs for publishers including Routledge, Trigger, and Sharpe Books.
I then progressed to Editorial Director, with responsibility for commissioning books, and working closely with authors and agents.
Since then I've ghostwritten several self-published titles.
I’m also a member of the Society of Authors, the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders, Byte The Book, and the UK Speechwriter's Guild.
Can I order additional copies?
Yes. Additional copies can be factored in prior to the initial run or ordered at a later date. The minimum run is 10 volumes.
How long does it usually take the finish the book?
From completion of my last interview with your friend or loved one, I normally suggest a turnaround time of around five months for receipt of the finished books.
How soon will I receive the gift box?
I try to ensure you'll receive your gift box within ten days.
Can we include our own message in the greeting card?
Absolutely. I'll write a small message of my own, but I'll leave plenty of space for you too.
Are there payment options or do you take full payment upfront?
I normally invoice in three stages: at the start of the project, before delivery of the first draft, and before production (or before sign off, if you have not signed up for a printed book.)
