Do you really need a writing mentor?
Your book will be uniquely yours. It will tell your story in your way. So why do I think you should consider working with a writing mentor? Here are a few reasons, see if any of them strike a chord…
You’re not getting honest feedback
The good thing about writing your own book is that you’re in charge, all the way. It’s your book, and you set the rules. But… objectivity is a wonderful thing. However good your writing is, it will be even better if you have honest feedback telling you where revisions, clarifications, and changes of emphasis will improve your manuscript. Your friends and family can help, but it will be hard for them to be both objective, and 100% honest in their feedback. When you work with me, you’ll get all the objectivity and honesty you need to make your book better.
You’re spending too much non-productive time working on your book
Instead of wasting time trying to resolve issues, or struggling with writer’s block, I can chip in and help you power through your writing roadblocks. When you get stuck, there’s usually a very good reason for it. I’ll work with you to see how and why you’re writing yourself into corners. It may be that you’re struggling for ideas, or you’re struggling to contain too many ideas. Either way, I can help you make more efficient use of your writing time.
You’re struggling to express yourself in the right way
I’ve worked with lots of first-time authors. Many of them had very particular stories they needed to tell, but lacked the confidence to write them. I can help you find and refine your tone of voice, and give you the confidence to tell your story in a way that is authentically yours. Funnily enough, I’ve found that it often takes an outsider to spot when an author is writing in their authentic voice, and when they’re not!
You’re just missing that vital spark
When you work with me, you’ll get the benefit of my experience in structuring and writing a story, and my insight into how to make a story accessible, dramatic, and involving. I’m here to suggest ideas you might not have thought of, or to suggest ways of doing things that will make the process easier and more intuitive.
Get all the writing support you need
So much of the book writing process comes down to having the confidence in your abilities, and I’ll help you take more pride in your work, so you can fully enjoy the process of writing your book.
From a one-off consultation to ongoing mentoring, I can work with you as and when you need. I’ll help you address any issues you’re struggling with, but also highlight all the things you’re doing right.
I’ve also written a bunch of articles containing tips on becoming a better writer
